inside every man

INSIDE EVERY MAN, LETTERPRESS CARDS ON FABRIANO, 4 X 6 IN EACH IMAGE

Played like a word game: phrases carefully letter-set and framed. Later, fractured into words, words to letters. The game points in one direction - to fragility - frayed, pink, threaded, bound. And to another toward innuendo (biting Jacob? Edward?).

Morph to a slight-of-hand trick: logos made to float mysteriously above symbols of absence and vulnerability. One the wall (see detail) the fragments are corralled together by over-done, nested gold gilt frames. Underscore the obsessive need to frame nothing(ness) correctly.

Bits of ietterpress, papercraft, scrapbooking tape, prize ribbons, children’s bandaids, rubbers stamps and gilded wood - maleness, like art, is largely overdone. When the frame is glitzier than the thing itself . . .
